New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to shake up the rankings of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as it plans to release a revised overall merit list in the wake of significant developments. The cancellation of grace marks for 1563 NEET UG 2024 candidates, along with a subsequent re-examination for this group, is anticipated to reshape the NEET landscape, affecting not only their ranks but also those of all 23 lakh NEET aspirants.

Why topper list decreased?

Previously, 67 students secured a perfect score of 720 out of 720 in NEET, yet due to tie-breaking policies, their All India Rank (AIR) varied. Among these top scorers, six students who took the exam at the same center in Haryana are among the 1563 candidates whose grace marks have been rescinded. Consequently, the NEET AIR for these individuals, as well as for the entire cohort, is poised for alteration.

NEET re-exam results on June 30

Reports indicate that a new all India merit list is expected following the release of NEET re-exam results on June 30, adding further complexity to the already competitive admissions process. NEET UG counseling is slated to commence from July 6, with the Supreme Court signaling that admissions to medical colleges will hinge on the outcome of pending petitions seeking the cancellation of the May 5 exam.

NEET controversy is under investigation

Meanwhile, the alleged paper leak case surrounding NEET is under investigation by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar. EOU has sought crucial information from NTA regarding the origins of the leaked question paper. Despite issuing multiple notices, NTA's response has been deemed inadequate by EOU, hindering progress in the investigation.

NEET paper leaked?

Preliminary findings suggest that the leaked NEET paper originated from outside Bihar and was subsequently distributed among select individuals. EOU suspects the involvement of individuals from states including UP and Delhi in the paper leak, with Dr. Shiv and several others emerging as key suspects. EOU is awaiting further cooperation from NTA to uncover the source of the leaked question paper and shed light on the extent of the conspiracy.

EOU sought answers to NTA

EOU's inquiries to NTA include probing the printing press responsible for producing the question paper, the distribution network, and the level of awareness among NTA officials regarding the process. The investigation suggests that the leaked paper entered Bihar centers via WhatsApp from neighboring states like Haryana and Rajasthan before dissemination to select individuals.

The collaboration between EOU and NTA remains pivotal in unraveling the complexities of the NEET paper leak scandal, with implications for the integrity of the entrance exam process and the future of medical education in India.
