New Delhi: In a significant development in the investigation into the alleged leak of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) paper, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Dr Ehsanul Haque, principal of Oasis School, and Imtiaz Alam, vice-principal and NEET-UG district coordinator designated by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Paper leak may have originated from Oasis School

The arrests were made following suspicions that the paper leak may have originated from Oasis School, located in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Sources within the CBI indicated that the arrested individuals would be presented before the court in Patna within 24 hours. However, specific grounds for their arrest have not yet been disclosed pending formal proceedings.

Malfunction in school

Earlier in the investigation, concerns were raised regarding a digital lock malfunction at Oasis School on May 5, the day of the NEET-UG exam. According to school authorities, this led to the manual opening of question paper containers under instructions from the NTA.

When it escalated?

The seriousness of the matter escalated when Bihar's economic offences unit (EOU) discovered a match between the serial code found on a leaked question paper and the examination center at Oasis School. This finding prompted further scrutiny and eventually led to the CBI taking over the investigation on June 22, following a directive from the Ministry of Education.

CBI arrests two in Patna

Previously, two individuals were arrested in Patna for allegedly facilitating accommodation and involvement in the suspected paper leak activities, which reportedly occurred a day prior to the exam.

13 accused so far

The unfolding investigation has implicated several individuals, including examinees, totaling 13 accused thus far, with additional arrests expected as the probe continues. The Ministry of Education has emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to address the alleged irregularities surrounding the NEET-UG examination of 2024. However, 13 suspects have been quizzed in Beur Jail, Patna.
