The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) requested today that the Election Commission of India step in to stop the ruling party from abusing the government investigative agencies to deny the opposition parties equal treatment.

INDIA's delegation

Senior Congressman Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi briefed reporters following his meeting with the Election Commission, stating that the INDIA delegation informed the commission that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's late-night detention was an assault on the fundamental elements of the Indian Constitution. He declared it to be wholly illegal and unconstitutional.

He made the point that elections must take place on an even playing field, as required by the Constitution. He claimed that the Chief Minister of Delhi's arrest shortly before the general elections amounted to a violation of equal opportunity and an assault on the fundamental elements of the Constitution.

The top leader of Congress claimed that they informed the Election Commission that if they could move the Director General of Police and other high-ranking officials, why couldn't they also take control of the operations of the investigative institutions that the ruling party is abusing?

Questions before the election

Before the elections, Dr Singhvi questioned why the Delhi Chief Minister had to be arrested so quickly. He questioned whether the ruling party could wait another two months for the elections to be over, adding that it hopes to win them even before a single vote is cast.
Congress general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal, CWC member Gurdeep Sappal, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, TMC leader Derek O'Brien, and other individuals made up the delegation.
