A panel of 35-member has been formed by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to develop the syllabus and Teaching-Learning material of Social Science, which includes History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology and Psychology for classes 6 to 12.

The 19-member National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), which was notified in July to finalise the curriculum, textbooks, and learning materials for these classes, has been followed by the Curricular Area Group (CAG): Social Science (including History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, and Psychology), which is chaired by Michel Danino, a visiting professor at IIT-Gandhinagar, according to a notification from NCERT.

In addition to this, NSTC was expected to further constitute at least 11 CAGs in different subject domains and so far, has constituted CAGs for innovative pedagogy and teaching learning material, IKS and social sciences.

NCERT to add content on electoral literacy in textbooks

In a bid to address voter apathy among young Indians, the Election Commission and the Ministry of Education earlier this month, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring electoral literacy to classrooms across the country.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will both introduce and update textbooks to include content on electoral literacy and will advise State Education Boards and other Boards to follow suit, as per MoU.

The MoU is intended to integrate voter education and electoral literacy into the curricular framework, starting from classes 6 to 12 in all schools.

In addition to this, it is to be noted here that NCERT has been developing several curriculum and programs to enhance the knowledge for students.
