Addressing the nation from Red Fort on the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday has expressed concern over the heavy rainfall that has wreaked havoc in many states. Notably, heavy rainfall has battered the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, which saw deaths and destruction a day earlier.

“…This time, natural calamity has created unimaginable crises in several parts of the country. I express my sympathies to all families who faced this….” PM Modi said.

During his addressal PM Modi assured that both the Centre and the state will help the affected families during times of crisis so they can start their life again. “I assure you about it”.

Images from Himachal Pradesh has come which shows that low hanging clouds, rainfall have taken the river Beas in-spate in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The rains and landslides have claimed several lives. Notably, northeastern states Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have been facing the havoc due to incessant rains. Rescue operations are still on in landslide hit areas.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department have issued a ‘Red’ alert for the states. In addition to this, Char Dham yatra has been halted due to weather conditions.

It is to be noted here that Rishikesh in Uttarakhand have recorded the highest rainfall, across the country, in a span of 24 hours on Monday morning. In addition to this, heavy rains in the State have triggered landslides and flash floods in several places, officials said.
