On the occasion of National Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu will present the National Teachers’ Award to 75 teachers from across the country on Tuesday, September 5.

According to the information by Minister of Education, the award ceremony will take place in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Along with the award, all the nominees will be given a certificate of merit and a cash award of ₹50,000 and a silver medal. Notably, the award function gets organised by Department of School Education and Literacy of Ministry of Education every year to confer the best teachers in the country.

The official statement by the department also confirms that from this year, it has decided to include teachers of the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Who all are included in the list of awardees?

A total of 75 teachers, which includes, 50 school teachers, 13 from higher education and 12 from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be awarded this year.

Meanwhile, the awardees also got an opportunity to interact with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Monday.

Why National Teachers’ Day is celebrated?

Every year, the country celebrates the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, as National Teachers’ Day on September 5. The purpose of the National Teachers’ Award is to celebrate the unique contribution of teachers in the country and to honour those teachers who, through their commitment and dedication, have not only improved the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.
