Nation stands by Kargil hero's widow amidst online harassment incident, NCW chief calls for action

New Delhi: Rekha Sharma, the chairman of the National Commission for Women (NCW), asserted that a Pakistani social media user made a disparaging remark about Smriti Singh, the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, the recipient of the Kirti Chakra.  Before this, the NCW brought up the issue independently and complained to the Delhi Police. A complaint was filed, alleging the publication of pornographic content online and insulting a woman's modesty.

"It was a very low-rated comment, which we noticed on social media and instantly took suo motu cognizance of it," Rekha Sharma said in an interview. Police have reported this guy in a Form FIR. However, the individual is probably from Pakistan. India's second-highest peacetime gallantry medal, the Kirti Chakra, was given posthumously to Captain Anshuman Singh in recognition of his bravery during a fire at an army camp in Siachen Glacier last year. President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the honor on Smriti Singh and her mother-in-law on July 5.
