Narendra Modi's oath-taking ceremony: Delhi Police implements traffic advisory; Multiple roads closed

Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term today, following the NDA's decisive victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections. With the grand ceremony scheduled to commence at 7:15 pm at the Rashtrapati Bhavan's Forecourt, the Delhi traffic police have issued an advisory, notifying commuters of road closures and diversions in the national capital.

1,000 traffic personnel deployed

Deputy Commissioner of Police, traffic, Prashant Gautam, stated that approximately 1,100 traffic personnel have been deployed and adequately briefed for the event. Extensive arrangements have been made not only for the general public but also for foreign delegates and heads of state attending the oath-taking ceremony.

Roads which will be closed 

According to the Delhi traffic police, several roads will be closed from 2 pm to 11 pm on Sunday, including Sansad Marg, North Avenue Road, South Avenue Road, Kushak Road, Rajaji Marg, Krishna Menon Marg, Talkatora Road, and Pt Pant Marg. Additionally, no vehicles will be permitted to halt or park near designated areas such as Imtiaz Khan Marg, Rakab Ganj Road, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Pandit Pant Marg, and Talkatora Road.

Routes to avoid 

Sansad Marg, Imtiaz Khan Marg, Rafi Ahmed Kidwari Marg, Pandit Pant Marg, Rajaji Marg, Tyagraj Marg, and Akbar Road.

Traffic diversion points 

Patel Chowk, Rail Bhawan, Roundabout Gurudwara Rakab Ganj, Gole Dakhana, Roundabout RML, Roundabout GPO, Roundabout Patel Chowk, Roundabout Krishi Bhawan, Roundabout Sunehri Bagh, Roundabout Gol Methi, Roundabout KGPO, and Teen Murthi. 

Vehicles found parked in restricted areas will be towed away and the owners prosecuted for improper parking and disobedience of lawful instructions. Furthermore, certain routes will be off-limits for heavy commercial vehicles and other vehicles between 6:45 am to 8:45 am, including IP Marg, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, and Mahatma Gandhi Marg.

8,000 guests expected to join 

Security has been significantly heightened in the national capital, with special measures in place for leaders from neighboring and Indian Ocean countries attending the high-profile event. Over 8,000 guests, including professionals and cultural performers, are expected to attend the ceremony.

Foreign leaders to join 

Seven foreign leaders from neighboring countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, Maldives, and Seychelles, will participate in the event, underscoring India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy.

PM Modi's cabinet

Reports suggest that PM Modi's cabinet is likely to comprise 27 to 30 ministers, with approximately one-third representing allies of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and some ministers of state. The allocation formula suggests a cabinet minister's post for every four to five MPs and a junior minister's post for every two.

The BJP, aiming for a third consecutive term and a third straight single-party majority, secured 240 seats in the Lok Sabha election, while the NDA's overall tally reached 293. In contrast, the Congress secured 99 seats, marking its best performance since 2009. The opposition alliance, the INDIA bloc, claimed 234 seats, as per the Election Commission of India.
