A senior police officer gave this information. Prohibitory orders are in place in the violence-affected areas under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS). Due to this, the roads in the concerned areas looked deserted and shops remained closed. Internet is closed in the affected areas, while security forces are checking vehicles on the main roads.

Three people died in the violence
Three people were killed and several others injured in violence that broke out in Suti, Dhuliyan, Shamsherganj and Jangipur areas since Friday afternoon, but no new incidents were reported in the district. A total of 180 people have been arrested till Saturday afternoon in connection with the violence that broke out following a protest against the Wakf (Amendment) Act, the official said.

Police is deployed and no one will be allowed to disturb the peace. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along with State Armed Police and RAF conducted a flag march on the national highway and surrounding streets.

People saved their lives by crossing the river
Officials said at least 18 policemen were injured in the clashes and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. During the violence, several vehicles, including police vans, were set on fire, security personnel and shops were pelted with stones and police booths were also burnt. Officials said hundreds of people affected by the communal violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad district have taken refuge in Malda by crossing the Bhagirathi river. The local administration has made arrangements for food and accommodation for the riot-affected families and has given them shelter in schools.
