Punjab: Punjab Police on Monday arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anokh Mittal, his girlfriend, and four contract killers for the alleged murder of his wife, Lipsi Mittal. The crime, initially disguised as a robbery, occurred last Saturday night when the couple was returning home from dinner in Dehlo, Punjab.
Anokh initially told police that he had stopped his car by the roadside to relieve himself when a gang of five armed robbers attacked him. When he regained consciousness, he claimed to have found his wife in a pool of blood, with their car and jewelry missing. However, police soon grew suspicious as Anokh kept changing his statements. Investigators believed he was fabricating the robbery story, leading them to dig deeper into the case.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed that the murder was orchestrated by Anokh Mittal himself. Police arrested the 35-year-old AAP leader along with his 24-year-old girlfriend, revealing a sinister conspiracy. According to investigators, Lipsi had discovered Anokh’s extramarital affair, prompting him to plan her murder with his girlfriend. The couple hired contract killers to execute the crime.
The police arrested four hired killers identified as: Amritpal Singh alias Balli (26), Gurdeep Singh alias, Manni (25), Sonu Singh (24), and Sagardeep Singh alias Teji (30). While Amritpal, Gurdeep, and Sonu belong to Nandpur village, Sagardeep hails from Dhandari Kalan. The gang leader, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, remains on the run, with police conducting search operations to nab him. Reports indicate that Anokh had promised ₹2.5 lakh to the contract killers, paying them an advance of ₹50,000.
Anokh Mittal, a businessman-turned-politician, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) just four months ago, after being inducted by MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi. His arrest has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties questioning the screening process of AAP’s new members.
