Mumbai police announced on Sunday that they have successfully recovered approximately Rs 100 crore from cyber fraudsters. This significant recovery pertains to funds defrauded from individuals over the past seven months, according to officials. The recovery followed complaints from around 35,918 victims who reported their cases to the Mumbai cyber police via the cyber helpline number 1930.

Action taken on 35,918 complaints

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Dutta Nalawade confirmed that action was taken on all 35,918 complaints related to cyber fraud. These complaints included incidents involving share trading, courier calls, investment schemes, threats of digital arrest, and online transactions, among other scams. Nalawade emphasised the importance of the 1930 helpline, urging people to report any financial cyber fraud immediately. "If any kind of financial fraud occurs, call 1930 immediately. After receiving the complaint on the helpline, three officers and 50 constables working in three shifts contact the banks and their nodal personnel to stop the transaction," he said.

Cyber fraudsters adopt new methods

To combat further fraudulent activities, the accounts of the accused are also frozen promptly. Nalawade noted that the helpline number 1930 has become a crucial resource for people dealing with cyber fraud. He also highlighted that cyber fraudsters continuously adopt new methods to deceive and extort money from victims.
