New Delhi: In a shocking incident, four Mumbai police officers, including a sub-inspector and three constables, have been suspended after a viral video allegedly showed them planting drugs on a man during a raid. The footage, which rapidly spread across social media platforms, captured two officers searching the individual while the other two stood by, overseeing the operation. The video then reveals one of the officers discreetly slipping something into the man's hip pocket.

Incident in Kalina area leads to suspensions

The incident occurred during a raid conducted by officers from the Anti-Terror Cell of the Khar police station on an open plot in the Kalina area of Mumbai. The man, identified as Daniel, was detained during the operation. According to Daniel, the officers initially threatened to falsely charge him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

However, after realizing that their actions had been recorded on CCTV, the officers decided to release him, Daniel claimed. The video evidence led to swift action from the Mumbai Police.

Police response 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Raj Tilak Roushan confirmed that the officers involved were suspended immediately following the release of the video. "The Mumbai Police have initiated a departmental inquiry to investigate the incident further," Roushan stated. He also pointed out that the way the search was conducted raised serious concerns about compliance with legal procedures, which further fueled suspicions.
