New Delhi: Major airports across India, including those in Mumbai, Jaipur, and Patna, were rocked by a wave of bomb threats on Tuesday after emails threatening explosions were received. A coordinated wave of bomb threats via email targeted at least 40 airports across the country. Security measures were immediately ramped up at all affected airports, with thorough searches conducted.

Officials believe emails were sent by "mischievous element"

Fortunately, airport officials believe the emails were sent by a malicious individual, not a credible threat. "The airport was thoroughly checked but nothing suspicious has been found so far," police confirmed.

Around 40 airports recevied mails of bomb threat

India's aviation security apparatus was put on high alert on Tuesday after a coordinated wave of bomb threats via email targeted at least 40 airports across the country. Major hubs like Mumbai, Jaipur, Patna, Delhi, Chennai, and Coimbatore were all affected.

The emails, received around 12:40 pm, triggered immediate security responses at all targeted airports. Thorough searches were conducted, including the deployment of bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS) and sniffer dogs from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Thankfully, authorities swiftly declared the threats a hoax after finding no suspicious materials.

Flights disrupted as precautionary measures taken

The incident caused some disruption to air travel. A Dubai-bound flight from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) was delayed due to the initial threat. Similarly, a Chennai-Dubai Emirates flight experienced a two-hour delay as security protocols were enacted.

Heightened security measures remain in place

While the immediate danger appears to be neutralized, security has been heightened at all affected airports, including Mumbai, Patna, and others that received multiple emails. This incident highlights the importance of robust security protocols and swift response mechanisms in the face of potential threats.

Manhunt launched for perpetrator

Authorities are currently tracing the IP address to identify the person responsible for the emails. Security has also been heightened at other airports that received threats, including Mumbai and Patna.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining vigilance against potential security threats. While the immediate danger appears to be a hoax, it underscores the importance of swift response and robust security protocols.
