Mumbai Coastal Road Phase 1: After over a decade since its inception, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, now christened as the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, is set for a partial inauguration on Monday. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, will mark the occasion by opening the south-bound arm and a significant section of the 10.58-km high-speed corridor to traffic on Tuesday morning.
The much-anticipated first phase of the project spans a 10.58 km stretch, with 9.5 km set to become operational following the inauguration. Notably, the remaining one-kilometre section, linking the road to the Bandra Worli Sea Link, is still undergoing construction. Initially, only one arm of the interchanges at Haji Ali, Worli, and Amarsons will be accessible.
The project broke ground on October 13, 2018, with an estimated budget of ₹12,721 crore. Additionally, Eknath Shinde has unveiled plans for a sprawling 320-acre central park along the coastal road, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and recreational value.
In light of the partial opening, Mumbai Police has issued traffic advisories, delineating specific entry and exit points for vehicles. Heavy vehicles, two-wheelers, and pedestrians are subject to restrictions, with enforced speed limits along the entire route.
The following vehicles are not permitted:
As per the Mumbai Police statement, halting vehicles, taking photographs, or recording videos along the route is strictly prohibited. The coastal road will be open for vehicular traffic between 6 am and 8 pm from Monday to Friday, ensuring smooth passage for commuters while maintaining safety standards.
