As the northern region is witnessing heavy downpours for a few days, several people have lost their lives in just 24 hours. According to the media reports, a 58-year-old woman was killed in the national capital when the ceiling of her flat came crashing down on her, while in Rajasthan people were killed in rain-related incidents.The destruction happened in India amid heavy rainfallIn Delhi, reportedly, 15 houses have collapsed amid the sudden hit of the heavy rainfall. Moreover, the city witnessed the highest rainfall in two decades on Saturday, causing major waterlogging, traffic congestion, uprooting trees, etc.Amid the rainfall, the annual Amarnath Yatra has been halted for three consecutive days, following the incessant rains and landslides incidents reported in the region. In the Srinagar-Jammu highway, at least 3,000 vehicles are stuck, where a portion of the road had caved in on Saturday.Down south, a fresh spell of rainfall has been experienced in several areas of Kerala and Karnataka as well. A yellow alert has been issued in parts of Kerala.Whats the condition in North IndiaThe national capital, Delhi has recorded 153 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, the highest in a single day since 1982.As per the Indian Metrological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall will continue in several parts of the northern region of the country for the next few days. The Indian Metrological Department has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rain for Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.The weather agency also said that the western disturbance prevailed over northern India, leading to an intense spell of rain yesterday, including Delhi which experienced the seasons first heavy rain. The downpours will continue in Delhi and its adjoining areas today as well. Further, the rainfall has lashed several parts of Haryana and Punjab also as the mercury dropped below normal limits in the two states, the weather office said. Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, witnessed rain throughout the day.
