A harrowing case of medical negligence has surfaced from Madhya Pradesh's Maihar, where a pregnant woman was made to clean an ambulance after she delivered her child on the way to the hospital. The shocking incident, caught on camera, went viral on social media with outrage and apprehensions being raised regarding the healthcare services in the state.

Woman gives birth in ambulance 

During her journey to Amarpatan Civil Hospital in a 108 emergency ambulance on Thursday, a woman who was pregnant suddenly went into labor. The woman gave birth to the child in the van before arriving at the hospital. But what came next shocked most people.

On reaching the hospital, rather than being given proper care and attention, the woman and baby were admitted, but her relatives were reportedly pressured by the ambulance driver to sanitize the vehicle. As per media reports, the driver demanded that the woman's family members clean and disinfect the ambulance, showing a shocking level of insensitivity.

Viral video sparks outrage

A clip of the incident, which is now going viral on the internet, captures a woman fetching water from a tap and scrubbing the ambulance with a bucket as the driver looks on. Once she is done washing the vehicle, the driver closes the doors of the vehicle, and the woman returns to the hospital. People on social media responded with outrage, criticizing the absence of compassion and professionalism in the healthcare sector.

Health department orders investigation

After the viral spread of the video, the state's health department has faced questions. While being asked about the incident, Satna's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. L.K. Tiwari, said an investigation has been ordered. The officials of Amarpatan Civil Hospital have been requested to submit details about the issue.

A hospital physician verified that the woman had been brought in by ambulance and was admitted for treatment. Meanwhile, netizens are still outraged, with one commenter declaring, "This is a thoroughly shameful act. The administration at the hospital should be taken to task."

The episode has heightened debate on the condition of healthcare facilities and patient care in Madhya Pradesh, with calls for immediate reform and accountability.
