New Delhi: A shocking case has emerged where the tragic death of a groom in police custody in Madhya Pradesh's Guna has sparked significant outrage and protests from his family members. On Tuesday, members of the Pardhi community, including women, staged a protest at the collectorate, resulting in a chaotic scene. The situation went so haywire that some women were seen undressing themselves to register their agony and pain. 

Protests turned intense

The protest turned intense as some women began removing their clothes in a bid to draw attention to their plight. Women police personnel intervened and managed to stop them with considerable difficulty. Collector Dr. Satendra Singh initially listened to the grievances of the protesters but had to call some women back for further discussions to calm the situation.

What happened with the groom?

Deva Pardi, a young man from the Pardhi community, was detained by police from the Jhanghar outpost along with his uncle Gangaram Pardi on Sunday. Deva's wedding procession was scheduled for that day, heading to Gokul Singh Chakk in Guna city. Later that night, the family received the devastating news of Deva's death. In response, the women from the community rushed to the district hospital in a mini-truck.

Wife attempts suicide, aunt set herself on fire

The news of Deva's death led to desperate reactions: his bride attempted suicide by pouring petrol on herself, and his aunt Surajbai set herself on fire. The family members demanded that the post-mortem be conducted in Bhopal. They were eventually pacified with the assurance of a magisterial inquiry.

Groom apprehended in case realted to theft

Additional SP Man Singh Thakur stated that Deva and Gangaram were taken into custody for questioning in a theft case in Bhidra village, Myana area. On Sunday evening, during the recovery of stolen goods, Deva experienced severe chest pain. He was rushed to the Myana hospital and later transferred to the district hospital, where he died after 45 minutes of treatment.
