A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night (February 15) at New Delhi Railway Station, leading to a stampede that claimed the lives of 18 people and left dozens more injured. The security forces have been put on high alert following the incident. However, in the aftermath, a video emerged showcasing the dedication of a female Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, who managed to balance her maternal responsibilities while fulfilling her duty.

RPF constable Reena shows unwavering dedication

On Sunday (February 16), Constable Reena from the RPF was spotted performing crowd control duties at New Delhi Railway Station, holding her one-year-old child in her arms while maintaining full commitment to her responsibilities. Several passengers, moved by her dedication and determination, saluted her efforts in managing her duties as a mother and law enforcement officer simultaneously.

Cause of stampede at the station

According to railway authorities, the stampede occurred when passengers gathered at the station in large numbers to catch trains to the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. The confusion was triggered when the announcement about the arrival of the Prayagraj Special train on Platform 16 caused passengers, who were waiting on Platform 14, to mistakenly believe their train would be arriving there. The sudden rush led to chaos and panic. Furthermore, four other trains bound for Prayagraj were also arriving, with three of them delayed, resulting in an unexpected surge in crowd size.

Railway ministry launches high-level investigation

Following the stampede, the Railway Ministry has ordered a high-level investigation into the "unfortunate incident." The ministry confirmed that the panic and confusion among the passengers led to several individuals fainting. Additionally, the railway denied any last-minute platform change announcements contributing to the incident. A two-member high-level committee has been set up for the investigation, consisting of Nar Singh Dev, the Principal Chief Commercial Manager of Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, the Principal Chief Security Commissioner.
