Pratappur: A local family in Chhattisgarh, is facing murder charges after a man's body was found hanging from a tree. The family, a woman, Bhagman Korwa, her brother Khiru, and her two minor daughters (aged 14 and 16), claim they acted in self-defense.
The incident unfolded on the night of May 1st. According to the Korwa family, Sanjay, a 35-year-old laborer residing near their home, allegedly attempted to molest one of the daughters. Awakened by the girl's screams, the family rushed to intervene, confronting Sanjay.
Bhagman Korwa stated to the police, "Sanjay had been a menace for years. He would stalk my daughters and often pick fights with us over trivial matters. That night, we found him trying to take our daughter away. We were scared and just reacted to protect her."
The Korwas allege the ensuing struggle resulted in Sanjay's death due to strangulation and beating. Panicked, they reportedly disposed of the body initially before hanging it from a tree to stage a suicide.
An investigation was launched upon discovery of the body. Autopsy reports confirmed death by strangulation and blunt force trauma. Based on evidence, police arrested Bhagman Korwa and her brother Khiru. Due to their age, the minor daughters were sent to a juvenile correction facility.
While the Korwa family maintains their actions were defensive, police continue their investigation. Key questions remain unanswered:
This tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by young girls and the lengths families may go to in their defense. It also raises questions about the legal boundaries of self-defense. As the investigation progresses, the justice system will determine the culpability of the Korwa family.
