Mohali mourns four lives lost: Road crashes claim social media influencer, others

Punjab: A social media influencer and three others died in separate road accidents in Mohali within 48 hours, raising concerns about road safety.

Punjab: A series of fatal accidents in Mohali claimed four lives within 48 hours, sparking outrage and renewed calls for improved road safety measures.The tragic incidents highlight the dangers faced by commuters and pedestrians alike, prompting authorities to address rash driving and negligence on city roads.

Family's Pilgrimage Turns Tragic

Neeraj Sharma, a 38-year-old Kharar resident, was killed, and seven others were injured when their Maruti Baleno was struck by a tipper truck on Airport Road. The accident occurred at the Bakarpur light point around 4:30 am on Sunday as the family, including two couples and four children aged 2 to 8, was en route to Haridwar for a pilgrimage. The tipper truck rammed into the back of their car, causing it to collide with a bus in front. Sharma died at a private hospital in Zirakpur, while the other injured were referred to PGIMER. The tipper driver, Lakhwinder Singh, fled the scene but has been booked.

Tempo Driver Flees After Fatal Collision

In a separate incident near Airport Chowk, Ajay Kumar was killed after being struck by a tempo around 11:30 pm on Saturday. Kumar and his uncle were traveling on a bike when they stopped, and Kumar was hit by the tempo while waiting near the vehicle. The tempo driver immediately fled the scene, and a case has been registered.

Motorcyclist Killed by Tipper Truck in Dera Bassi

Another life was claimed when Mohammad Haleem, a motorcyclist, was hit by a tipper truck in Kuranwala village, Dera Bassi, on Saturday. The driver, Nishant Rana, escaped after the accident. Haleem succumbed to his injuries at the Dera Bassi civil hospital.

Cyclist Dies in Hit-and-Run

Adding to the grim toll, a cyclist, Tarsem Singh, 61, was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Handesra. The unidentified driver fled the scene, and police have registered a case.
