A curious exchange unfolded at Buxar Railway Station in Bihar on Sunday (February 16) when Danapur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jayant Kant Chaudhary was conducting a routine inspection. During the visit, the DRM questioned a group of women traveling without tickets. The women’s response left him momentarily stunned, as they confidently claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had authorized free travel for all.

The unbelievable response

Upon inquiry, the women claimed, "Modi Ji said we can travel for free." This unexpected reply caught DRM Chaudhary off guard, leaving him laughing at their bold statement. Despite the confusion, the DRM did not pursue further questioning and continued with his inspection.

Further discussions revealed that the women were on their way to the Maha Kumbh Snan (a religious dip) in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and had chosen to travel without tickets. DRM Chaudhary clarified that no such announcement had been made by Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing that traveling without a valid ticket violates railway regulations. The lighthearted exchange highlighted the role of misinformation in creating misunderstandings about rules.

Viral video sparks laughter online

A video of this amusing interaction was recorded by a bystander and quickly went viral across social media platforms. Viewers found both the women’s witty response and DRM Chaudhary’s good-natured reaction highly entertaining.

DRM's message and security concerns

In his address, DRM Chaudhary underscored the importance of adhering to ticketing laws and emphasized that misinformation can often lead to confusion among the public. He also raised concerns about security at stations, especially with the impending Maha Kumbh 2025. The DRM instructed Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers to enhance vigilance and addressed issues surrounding overcrowding and unregulated travel.

Improving passenger safety

As part of his inspection, DRM Chaudhary directed the railway staff to:

  • Regularly announce warnings to prevent overcrowding.
  • Ensure reserved ticket holders are not inconvenienced.
  • Utilize empty train rakes (MT) to optimize train capacity.

The DRM assured staff that the issue of unclear communication regarding train movements would be resolved to ensure a smoother travel experience for all passengers.
