Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of the Chief Minister M.K Stalin of Tamil Nadu found himself amid controversy when he compared Sanatan Dharma with dengue and malaria at a ‘Sanatana Abolition Conference’ on Saturday. He also that Sanatana Dharma is against the idea of social justice and equality and must be “eradicated.”
He said that just the way we cannot oppose diseases like malaria and dengue, we cannot oppose Santana Dharma but instead eradicate it. He made this statement in Chennai organised by the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Artists Association on the theme of ‘eradication of Sanatana’ on Saturday.
After the backlash Stalin received from the BJP, he shared a post on his ‘X’ handle while clarifying his remarks and said that he is ready to face any legal challenges that might be thrown his way.
Udhayanidhi Stalin was delivering a speech at a ‘Sanatana Abolition Conference’ on Saturday where he called Sanatan Dharma and diseases like dengue and malaria to be similar.
“Few things cannot be opposed, that should be abolished only. We can’t oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria, or corona. We have to eradicate this. That’s how we have to eradicate Sanatana,” Stalin said at the conference.
“Rather than opposing Sanatana, it should be eradicated. The name Sanatana is from Sanskrit. It is against social justice and equality,” added the minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development in the ruling DMK government.
His comments have ignited massive backlash from BJP and many called for a case to be filed against the Tamil Nadu minister. Amit Malviya, BJP’s IT cell head also took to ‘X’ to express his displeasure over Stalin’s remark and also commented on Congress’s silence on the issue.
Malviya wrote “Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, and a minister in the DMK government, has linked Sanatana dharma to malaria and dengue. He is of the opinion that it must be eradicated and not merely opposed. In short, he is calling for the genocide of 80 percent population of Bharat, who follow Sanatana dharma. DMK is a prominent member of the Opposition block and a long-standing ally of the Congress. Is this what was agreed in the Mumbai meet?”

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also said that it is a “genocidal call, supported by Karti Chidambaram of the Congress party” in a video uploaded in ‘X’. “This is nothing less than a genocidal call and it has been supported by Karti Chidambaram of the Congress party… The question is that, Is this ‘Mohabbat ki dukaan or is this Nafrat ke bhaijaan?” he said in the video.

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai lashed out at Stalin’s family and said the family had taken the idea from Christian missionaries. Moreover, Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar also slammed Stalin’s family for dynastic politics and said that as a cover for their corruption and parasitic behaviour, they create narratives like “Protecting Dravidian Land”
While responding to Amit Malviya’s tweet, Udhayanidhi Stalin said he never called for the “genocide” of people who were Sanatana dharma followers but rather on uprooting the whole principle of Santana Dharma itself. He also said that he would stick by his words and speak on behalf of the marginalised and oppressed community who have suffered under this Dharma.
I never called for the genocide of people who are following Sanatan Dharma. Sanatan Dharma is a principle that divides people in the name of caste and religion. Uprooting Sanatan Dharma is upholding humanity and human equality.
