Army has ordered a probe as three surface-to-air missiles were misfired from the Pokhran field firing range

Three surface-to-air missiles were accidentally launched due to a technical issue on Friday during a military drill at the Pokhran field shooting range near Jaisalmer. However, all the missiles miss their target and land in three separate fields in three distinct villages.

Defense official Lt. Col. Amitabh Sharma acknowledged the incident, stating that “A case of Missile misfire was recorded while a unit was doing their annual field firing today.”

Army experts were testing missiles with a range of 10 to 25 kilometres. However, one of the missiles veered off course due to a technical issue.

The missiles reportedly exploded in the air and fell outside the shooting range. One missile was found in a field close to the village of Ajasar, away from the firing line. The remains of the second missile were found in a barren region close to Satyaya village.

No casualties or property losses, however, were reported. To ascertain the cause, an investigation is being conducted.
