New Delhi: A shocking incident has surfaced in Karnataka's Kolar district, where a 17-year-old student from a private college gave birth on campus on Monday. According to a police officer, the Class 11 student delivered her baby in the women's toilet. After the birth, both the girl and her newborn received immediate medical attention at a hospital.

According to the investigation report, the girl and a boy had been in a relationship for the past two years. It remains unclear how her family did not notice her pregnancy or why she chose to conceal it. According to the media report, a police officer said that as the girl recovers post-delivery.

Case registered under POSCO Act 

The girl's parents subsequently filed a complaint at the Kolar Women's Police Station, prompting immediate action from the police. An officer confirmed they have initiated a case and launched a search to apprehend the criminal. Police have filed a complaint under Section 376 (2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual tences (POCO Act).

The police explained that despite the case being reported after the introduction of new criminal laws, the alleged crime happened nine months ago, making the new laws inapplicable in this incident. 

Similar incident 

Earlier this year, a similar incident occurred in Karnataka, where a class 9 girl from a government residential school reportedly gave birth to a baby boy in a hospital. This led to the filing of a rape case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO. The 14-year-old girl was staying in the hostel of a government boarding school in Tumakuru district.
