Indian army vehicle attacked in Gulmarg: Security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Butapathri sector of Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred at Nagin Post, where a civilian army porter was killed and six soldiers were injured in an exchange of fire with infiltrating terrorists.

Infiltration near LoC in a sensitive region

The Butapathri sector, close to Gulmarg, has long been a hotspot for infiltration attempts due to its proximity to the LoC. Over the years, several infiltration attempts have been reported in this sensitive region. During this latest incident, terrorists targeted an army vehicle, prompting an immediate response from the alert troops stationed in the area.

How was the attack foiled?

As soon as the soldiers identified the infiltration attempt, a fierce gunfight ensued between the terrorists and security forces. In the crossfire, four soldiers sustained injuries, and tragically, the civilian army porter later succumbed to his wounds. Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the attack to gather further details.

Police confirms of exchange of bullets

A police official confirmed the incident, stating, “Some exchange of fire took place between the forces and terrorists in the Butapathri sector of Baramulla near Nagin Post. Further details will be shared soon.”

Mebooba is 'Shocked'

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed her condolences via Twitter, saying, “Shocked & deeply saddened by the militant attack on an army convoy in Baramulla, where a civilian porter was killed. I unequivocally condemn this attack and pray for the swift recovery of the injured soldiers.”

Recent pattern of violence

This attack comes amid a growing trend of violence in the region, where migrant workers have been frequently targeted by terrorists. In a recent incident, Shubham Kumar, a laborer from Uttar Pradesh, was shot in the hand by terrorists in Batagund village, Pulwama district. Kumar was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment, marking the third such attack on migrant workers within a week.

Earlier attacks in Kashmir

The Kashmir Valley has witnessed several deadly attacks in recent weeks. On October 20, six migrant laborers and a local doctor were killed when terrorists attacked a construction site in Ganderbal. A few days earlier, on October 18, another migrant worker from Bihar was shot and killed by terrorists in Shopian.
