New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has significantly upgraded the security arrangements for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, enhancing his existing Z+ protection to the more comprehensive Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) protocol. This elevation brings Bhagwats security detail on par with that of Home Minister Amit Shah.As part of the upgraded protocol, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will intensify their protective measures for Bhagwat. Previously one of ten individuals under Z+ security provided by CISF, Bhagwat will now benefit from additional layers of security coordination and advanced threat mitigation strategies. Currently, CISF personnel are responsible for the protection of approximately 200 high-profile individuals across the country.Upgrade follows new threat assessmentThe decision to bolster Bhagwats security came after a recent threat assessment report submitted by the Intelligence Bureau to the MHA. Officials informed ANI that the new directives were issued on August 16, highlighting increased vulnerabilities, especially in states governed by non-BJP parties. The report cited potential threats from various organizations, including radical Islamist groups, leading to the classification of Bhagwat as an ASL protectee. In response to the upgraded security status, all states and Union Territories have been formally notified to implement the necessary measures under the ASL protocol. This requires seamless collaboration among local agencies, including district administrations, police forces, health departments, and other relevant authorities, to ensure comprehensive safety for the RSS chief during his movements and public engagements.Strict protocols for travel and public appearancesThe ASL protocol mandates stringent guidelines for Bhagwats travel and public appearances. Helicopter and aircraft usage will be restricted to specially designed and approved vehicles, adhering to rigorous safety checks. Additionally, thorough anti-sabotage inspections and multi-layered security perimeters will be established to preempt and neutralize any potential threats effectively.
