New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a 21-year-old woman's life was saved thanks to a rapid response triggered by Meta (Facebook) AI. The woman, who was on the verge of committing suicide, posted a video of herself preparing to hang herself on social media. The viral post prompted Meta AI to alert local authorities. Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Police interviened to save her.
According to ACP Rajneesh Verma of Mohanlalganj, the social media monitoring center at the Director General of Police's office received an urgent notification from Meta AI around noon on Saturday. The alert indicated that a young woman was in immediate danger, hanging from a noose. The police quickly mobilized and reached the woman's residence, successfully rescuing her before she could harm herself.
The woman was reportedly distraught over her recent separation from her husband, which led her to contemplate suicide. The investigation revealed that she had been in a relationship with a man from a different locality. They had married in an Arya Samaj Mandir about four months prior, but since their marriage was not legally recognized, the man abandoned her.
The woman's distress was exacerbated by the departure of her partner, leading her to the desperate act captured in the video. The footage, showing her with a noose around her neck and discussing her intent to end her life, quickly gained traction online. The prompt alert from Meta AI allowed the Director General of Police to direct the local police to the scene.
Upon arriving, the police, including a female officer, engaged with the woman and provided immediate counseling. After an hour of support, she was safely removed from her precarious situation. The police have maintained ongoing contact with her, ensuring her well-being. Moreover, based on her complaint, the estranged husband has been taken into custody.
