Meghalaya imposes night curfew along Bangladesh border amid turmoil

Amid escalating unrest in Bangladesh, Meghalaya has imposed a night curfew along its international border with the neighboring country. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced the decision, citing the volatile situation across the border. "In view of the volatile situation, the state government has decided to impose night curfew along the international border with Bangladesh," Mr. Tynsong said.

Curfew Timings and Enforcement

The curfew will be in effect from 6 pm to 6 am daily, starting immediately. It will cover a 200-meter area within Indian territory from the international border. The state government has taken this measure to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

Border Security Reinforcement

Nine battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF) are currently deployed to guard the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. Mr. Tynsong assured that additional security forces will be sent to the border if necessary. The Deputy Inspector General of BSF has been directed to keep the authorities updated on the situation.

Role of Meghalaya Police

The Meghalaya Police have also been instructed to assist the BSF whenever required. The collaboration aims to strengthen the security along the border and prevent any spillover of violence into Indian territory. In light of the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, Mr. Tynsong chaired a crucial meeting with key officials, including the DIG BSF (Operations), Director General of Police, Meghalaya, Chief Secretary, and other police department officials. The meeting focused on strategizing and ensuring coordinated efforts to manage the situation effectively.
