Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, reported the elimination of a high-ranking Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander during an encounter in Srinagar's Khanyar area. The deceased terrorist, identified as Usman, was involved in the murder of Inspector Masroor in 2023.
"The operation has now concluded," IGP Birdi told ANI, adding, "Four security personnel were injured in the intense gunfight that began early Saturday morning." Usman, confirmed as a foreign operative, played a key role in the region’s terror activities, and his involvement in Inspector Masroor’s murder remains under investigation.
In a parallel operation in Anantnag, two terrorists were neutralized by security forces on Saturday. According to IGP VK Birdi, "The operation is nearing completion, marking a significant achievement. These actions stem from specific intelligence, leading to coordinated efforts by our forces."
The confrontation in Anantnag's Halkan Gali area began after Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF forces observed suspicious movement. As forces challenged the suspects, terrorists responded with indiscriminate gunfire. In response, Chinar Corps, Indian Army, posted on X, "Our troops retaliated effectively, eliminating two terrorists. The operation remains ongoing."
