Haryana Assembly Election: Savitri Jindal, recognised as India’s richest woman, is currently leading from the Hisar constituency in the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024, according to early trends. Running as an independent candidate, she is up against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Kamal Gupta, a two-time elected representative from the constituency in 2014 and 2019.

Former Congress MLA turns independent

Savitri Jindal previously held the Hisar seat as a Congress MLA from 2005 to 2013. However, she has entered this year's electoral fray as an independent candidate to represent the "voice of the people of Hisar in the assembly," after being unable to secure a BJP ticket despite joining the party in March. Jindal has expressed a deep connection to the people of Hisar, describing them as her "family."

India’s richest woman with $36.3 billion net worth

At 74 years old, Savitri Jindal is not only a political figure but also a business mogul. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, her net worth stands at $36.3 billion, making her the fifth-richest Indian and the wealthiest woman in the country. She inherited the family business after the death of her husband, Om Prakash Jindal, in 2005, managing ventures in steel production, power generation, port facilities, and mining.
