New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is in a race against time to secure top legal representation for Vinesh Phogat's appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Vinesh, who challenged her disqualification on two grounds, will now be represented by the distinguished lawyer Harish Salve. The CAS hearing has been rescheduled to 10 am local time (1:30 PM IST) today.

Salve's illustrious career began after studying law at Nagpur University and obtaining a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge. Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for over-weighing by 100 grams

Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight before her gold medal match in the 50 kg wrestling category on August 7. She appealed for a second weigh-in, which was rejected, allowing the match to proceed as scheduled. Despite this setback, Vinesh is hopeful that her disqualification might be overturned or that she could be awarded a silver medal for her earlier performance.

Currently, four Paris-based lawyers are handling Vinesh’s case. However, with Harish Salve’s involvement, the IOA is optimistic about a favorable outcome. Nonetheless, the resolution of the case might take time and could be prolonged. This development comes shortly after Vinesh announced her retirement, citing a lack of strength to continue in the sport.
