New Delhi: In an astonishing display of administrative oversight, a railway overbridge in Meerut has been suspended in mid-air for the past 11 years. The bridge, completed in structure but lacking the necessary approach roads, stands as a symbol of unfinished infrastructure projects.

Foundation stone laid down by Mayawati

The foundation stone for this overbridge was laid by former Chief Minister Mayawati on November 12, 2011. While the bridge itself was constructed by the railways, the responsibility for the approach roads fell to Setu Nigam, and the land was to be provided by the Meerut Development Authority (MDA).

Why did the Setu Nigam did not proceed with road construction?

Despite the completion of the bridge, the approach roads have not been built. The Meerut Development Authority failed to provide the necessary land, and Setu Nigam did not proceed with the road construction. This lack of coordination and follow-through has resulted in the overbridge hanging uselessly in the air.

Subject to public frustration, mockery

The incomplete bridge has become a subject of public frustration and mockery. Residents and commuters who would benefit from the bridge are left to deal with the inconvenience caused by this administrative failure. The project, meant to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity, now serves as a stark reminder of bureaucratic inefficiency.

The situation calls for immediate action from the concerned authorities. The Meerut Development Authority needs to expedite the land acquisition process, and Setu Nigam must commence construction of the approach roads without further delay. Ensuring the completion of this project is crucial for improving local infrastructure and restoring public faith in administrative bodies.
