New Delhi: In recent developments, Meerut police have apprehended a gang involved in a sophisticated honey trap scheme. The arrests, which took place on Wednesday, September 4th, saw seven individuals, including two women, detained for using fake Hindu identities to deceive and extort money from innocent men. The suspects have been identified as Asif Sayed, Aniket, Deepak, Firoz, Faheem, Ruhina (also known as Simran) and Summaiyaa (also known as Shalu).

Details of the operation

According to media reports, the gang's modus operandi involved trapping Hindu men by posing as Hindus themselves. The group would then blackmail their victims for money. The arrests were made at Partapur Police Station after the suspects attempted to flee the scene in vehicles. The police had been conducting a routine check on Putha Road in the Meerut area when they identified and apprehended the gang members.

Scheme unveiled

The case initially came to light following a false rape accusation filed by one of the women involved. Summaiya, using the alias Shalu Sharma, had lured a victim from Partapur under the pretense of a romantic meeting. After developing a sexual relationship with the victim at a hotel in the Rithani area, Summaiya and her accomplices captured him as he left the hotel, demanding ₹50 lakh. They threatened him with a fabricated rape case if he did not comply.

Gang's plan foiled after false rape complaint

The gang's plan began to unravel when they reported a fake rape case involving 'Shalu' at Partapur Police Station. The complaint detailed an alleged assault by the victim. However, suspicion arose when Police Officer Mohit Saxena questioned the validity of the claim. Subsequent investigations led police to the hotel where the alleged encounter took place. During the probe, two additional gang members, pretending to be 'Shalu’s' relatives, fled but were later apprehended on the highway.

Uncovering the facts

Interrogation of the victim revealed the extortion plot and the threats made by the gang. Further investigation disclosed that 'Shalu' was actually Summaiya, and other members of the gang included Asif, Ruhina, Firoz, and Faheem. The police also discovered fake Aadhar cards used by the suspects to build trust with their victims. The gang had previously used similar tactics to trap multiple men, with Firoz believed to be the mastermind.

Investigation is ongoing

The police confirmed that while seven members of the gang have been arrested, there may be additional accomplices still at large. "All members of the gang will be apprehended soon. We have recovered fake Aadhar cards, vehicles, and mobile phones used in the operation. The investigation is ongoing," stated a police spokesperson.
