New Delhi: A disturbing incident of medical malpractice has come to light from Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh where a private hospital allegedly left a towel inside a woman's abdominal cavity following her delivery. The shocking oversight only came to attention after the woman's health began to decline, prompting further medical intervention. It wasn't until she underwent a subsequent surgical procedure that the towel was discovered and removed, revealing a grave lapse in medical care. The incident has sparked widespread concern and raised questions about the hospital's standards and protocols.

Following a wave of public backlash and outrage, authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the incident, aiming to uncover the circumstances and accountability surrounding the alleged medical negligence.

Woman's life put at risk after delivery

The victim identified as a 28-year-old woman, who had given birth to twin daughters at Shiv Mahima Hospital in Aligarh, was discharged after the delivery but soon experienced excruciating abdominal pain. Despite her worsening condition, doctors at the initial hospital sent her home with only medication, without properly addressing her symptoms.

It wasn't until her family sought further medical attention at another hospital that the shocking discovery was made - a towel had been left inside her abdomen during the delivery procedure. The woman's husband expressed outrage, stating that the hospital's negligence put his wife's life in serious danger.

Family demands action against hospital

Dr. Neeraj Tyagi, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Aligarh, stated in an interview with the Times of India that "We have received complaints of negligence during the operation, as well as reports of overcharging by the hospital. A team has been formed to investigate these allegations, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible."

The woman's family is seeking severe punishment for the hospital's negligence.
