The deceased has been identified as Ipsita Ghosh, who was preparing for the MBBS entrance exam for around eight months at one of the premiere institutes in the city, wrote a long suicide note, blaming loneliness as the primary reason behind taking this extreme step.

Briefing about the suicide, an officer from Tiljala said, “Maybe it was the highly competitive environment that affected her mental health. It seems that she did not find any friends to confide in and might have felt lonely. At the end of her suicide note, she wrote that no one was responsible for her decision.”

The girl was found hanging in her first-floor room around 09:30 am, according to the sources.

She was immediately rushed to the CNMC hospital, where she was declared dead.

Police to meet her parents

The police said that they would be speaking to the family members about the incident.

“We will go through her call records too if required. We need to ascertain if she was under any pressure at her institute. Besides this, we will also be speaking to the owner of her apartment to ascertain what transpired on Tuesday night,” said a senior officer, adding that the police have ordered an inquest even as the findings from the post-mortem were awaited.
