Delhi Police arrested a 37-year-old man from Raghubir Nagar in West Delhi on suspicion of allegedly stealing more than 50 mobile phones. The accused, Pramod Kumar Gupta, is a mathematics graduate who had passed out in 2013 from a government college in Gonda in Uttar Pradesh.

From mobile repair to crime

Pramod acquired a mobile phone repair training in 2020, said police officials. But rather than making an honest living, he used to sell stolen phones in Delhi and Haryana for easy money, they added.

DCP (West) Vichitra Veer has established that Pramod had already been accused in a criminal case. The officials recovered 52 stolen or snatched mobile phones and 15 motherboards when he was arrested. Pramod is a resident of Sonipat, Haryana.

Police action leads to arrest

On 6 March, police got a tip-off regarding a person trying to dispose of a large quantity of stolen mobile phones in Raghubir Nagar. Based on this tip, the police established a trap near NWB Chowk Road. On 7 March, at 12:30 PM, they caught a glimpse of Pramod with a bag of mobile phones.

When the officers signaled him to halt, he tried to run but was immediately arrested. During the police search of his bag, they discovered 52 mobile phones of different brands and 15 motherboards. He could not provide ownership documents for the gadgets.

Criminal organizations and investigation

It was also found that two of the phones seized were employed in theft cases that were filed at Khayala and Hari Nagar police stations. The government also revealed that Pramod's father is a commission agent. Pramod is married and has two children. The police are still investigating to find out whether he was alone or had accomplices in his illegal business.
