Massive fire engulfs Dombiwali factory: 4 dead, dozens injured

According to reports, at least four people have died and over 25 have been badly injured in this tragic incident. Eyewitnesses said that they heard three blasts at the factory as flames engulfed the premises.

A devastating explosion engulfed a chemical factory in Thane's Dombiwali near Mumbai, triggering a massive fire and leaving several people feared trapped. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, was reportedly caused by a boiler explosion inside the factory located in MIDC Phase 2.

According to reports, at least four people have died and over 25 have been badly injured in this tragic incident. Eyewitnesses said that they heard three blasts at the factory as flames engulfed the premises.

CM expresses condolences 

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, confirmed that at least four people lost their lives. Eight individuals have been rescued so far, with rescue operations ongoing. "I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured," expressed Fadnavis, emphasizing the swift response of emergency teams including NDRF, TDRF, and the fire brigade. Cabinet minister Uday Samat reached the spot to examine the situation. The minister also assured of a plan to get a permanent solution for MIDC Dombivli. 

Efforts to douse flames underway

The workers trapped inside were immediately taken out. Efforts to extinguish the fire are underway, with around 15 fire engines deployed at the scene. However, officials estimate that it could take another four hours to completely get control over the situation.

The fire, that has spread to two other buildings, including a car showroom, led to the shattering of windows of nearby houses. One of the residents posted a visual of the shattered window, questioning the authorities who would be responsible for the damage done. 

Uncertainty looms as the number of people stuck remains unknown

The impact of the blast caused widespread damage, with several vehicles and houses reportedly affected. Dr Nikhil Patil, highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the number of individuals still trapped inside the factory. He said that the workers were on day shift working inside the factory when the explosion happened. They are waiting for more people to be rescued. 

As the rescue operation continues, authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all individuals affected by this tragic incident.
