Maratha Reservation: The health condition of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil, who has been on an indefinite fast for the past five days in Maharashtra's Jalna, took a severe downturn on Wednesday. Despite experiencing bleeding from his nose, Jarange remains steadfast in his refusal to consume water or medication. He adamantly declines medical examination by doctors.

Maratha Reservation: Disturbing scene unfolds

In a distressing video footage, bloodstains were visible on Jarange's shirt and the bedsheet as he sought respite in a makeshift tent. The activist, stationed at his native Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna, is advocating for the inclusion of the Maratha community in the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.

Maratha Reservation: Jarange's stern warning to Maharashtra govt

In a direct message to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government, Jarange issued a stern warning, asserting that the Maratha community would ignite unrest in the state should he perish during the strike. He declared that the Maratha populace would not permit Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct public rallies.

Maratha Reservation: Appeal and accusations

Addressing reporters, Jarange implored Maratha community members to engage in peaceful protests and 'bandh' activities in Jalna. He accused CM Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar of betraying the Marathas' trust.

Maratha Reservation: Escalation of tensions

Jarange's deteriorating health has ignited tensions among Maratha community members, prompting protests and violence in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district. Protesters disrupted vehicular movement and launched stone-pelting attacks on State Transport buses.

Notably, this marks Jarange's fourth indefinite hunger strike within the span of a year, aimed at pressuring the Maharashtra government to include the Maratha community in the OBC category.
