Four people have been arrested on Thursday in the horrifying viral video of women being paraded naked came up from Manipur.

Manipur police through their social media handle announced, “Four main accused arrested in the Viral Video Case: Three main accused of the heinous crime of abduction and gangrape under Nongpok Sekmai PS, Thoubal District have been arrested today. So total 04 (four) persons have been arrested till now.” Adding to this, they also mentioned, “The State Police is making all out efforts to arrest the other culprits at the earliest. Raids are continuing.”

Apart from this, the state police are also conducting search operations at the nakas.

That state police department further mentioned, “State Police and Central forces continue to conduct search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. 02 (two) arms with 05 (five) ammunitions were recovered in Imphal East District. A total of 129 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police had detained 657 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.”

Manipur CM to stay

Amid call for the resignation of the chief minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, alleging the massive failure in the governance, the sources from the government have said that “There is no discussion on changing the chief minister, rather the priority is to ensure that the law and order remains in control. The sources also asserted that the home minister had talks with the Kuki group this morning and assured them of speedy action.” Moreover, the Centre is in constant touch of the state government.

It is to be noted here that violence broke out in Manipur, following a protest march held by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3 against the proposed inclusion of members of the Meitei group in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
