On Monday, Manipur's Department of Higher and Technical Education announced the closure of all government, aided, and private colleges until September 12. The directive, issued by Laishram Dolie Devi, Joint Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, specifies that institutions will remain shut on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12. This measure comes in response to ongoing security concerns in the region.

Security Measures and Internet Ban

In light of recent violence, joint security forces conducted a flag march in the troubled areas of Sugnu and surrounding regions in Kakching. The state government has also imposed a ban on internet services starting Tuesday to curb the spread of misinformation and false rumours on platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This internet blackout will be in effect until September 15.

Investigation and Evidence Collection

Manipur's Inspector General of Police for Operations, IK Muviah, announced that evidence from the recent drone bombing case will likely be handed over to central investigative agencies for further examination. Muviah stated, “We are collecting various pieces of evidence... Most likely, we will be handing over these important cases to national investigative agencies for high-level investigation. We have recovered all bomb fragments, which have been sent to the forensic lab for chemical analysis.”

Successful Security Operations

In a series of effective operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and other security forces have conducted extensive search and recovery missions across Manipur. These operations, carried out in the first week of September 2024, resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of arms, ammunition, and warlike stores. The joint effort, which included the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, and Manipur Police, targeted specific intelligence reports about weapon caches in areas such as Liklai, Mashemjang, P Geljang, Thoroilok, Gelmon, Molphai Tampak, Leisanbung, and Maulnghat in Churachandpur District.
