The former Union Minister and Congress leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar has once again sparked a new controversy calling the Indo-China war of 1962, an ‘alleged Chinese invasion’.

The remarks from the leader came during a book event, ‘Nehru's First Recruits: The Diplomats Who Built Independent India's Foreign Policy,” written by Kallol Bhattacherjee. "The Chinese allegedly invaded India in October 1962," Aiyar stated at the press conference on Tuesday.

It should be noted that the 1962 Indo-China war took place between October and November of 1962, when Chinese troops attacked across the ‘McMohan Line’ and captured the Aksai Chin region which belongs to India.

Aiyar repeated certain things when narrating an incident from his experience taking the Indian Foreign Service examination. "In London, the Foreign Service examinations started the day Tawang fell. After it ended, the newspapers used to characterize me as a communist and very left-wing since I was well-known in politics. After I performed really well on the foreign service exam and passed it. I discovered that I could not locate any sort of admissions letter. In order to let them know that I had not received the joining letter, I wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs," Aiyar stated.

"I quickly understood what this was about when I received the Telegram message that said, "Regret to notify you, that you have been rejected from all services."Because I am a communist and because I have raised money for the Chinese, the Intelligence Bureau deduced from Yellow Rats, a crucial source of information on Indian students attending overseas colleges. How will I raise money for the Chinese because I was unable to raise enough for my dinner? I was taken off the list and I quickly returned to India," the top Congress leader continued.

It should be noted that Aiyar has been no stranger to the controversies that left the party embarrassed on the stage.

The 1962 Indo-China War

In 1962, a border conflict erupted between India and China, known as the Sino-Indian War. The conflict arose primarily due to border disputes over the Himalayan region, particularly in the areas of Aksai Chin and the McMahon Line (now known as the Line of Actual Control). The war lasted for about a month, from October 20 to November 21, 1962, and resulted in a decisive victory for China.
