Located near the Banke Bihari temple, the dig has revealed a stepwell believed to be around 150 years old. As cleaning of the structure progressed, workers stumbled upon an ancient two-room building. The discovery of a tunnel shortly after has deepened the mystery.District Magistrate (DM) Rajendra Pansia and Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar Vishnoi inspected the site. The DM stated, The stepwell appears to be approximately 150 years old. A survey team from the state archaeology department will be called to investigate further. He added that official records indicate 400 square meters of land designated for the stepwell, of which only 210 square meters remain accessible due to encroachments. Steps are being taken to reclaim the occupied land.Encroachment removal orderedOn Saturday morning, officials, including SDM Neetu Rani and other district authorities, arrived to oversee the excavation. The DM directed local officials to measure the land and remove encroachments around the stepwell. Plans are also in motion to restore the Banke Bihari temple, ensuring collaboration with local residents.The ongoing excavation has captivated locals, who eagerly await more revelations as work progresses.
