Haryana News: In a shocking case from Panipat, Haryana, a woman has accused her husband, Bhagwan Singh, and his family of deception and dowry harassment. According to the woman, she met Singh in 2021, and they began a relationship. During this time, she claims that he drugged and assaulted her, leading to a pregnancy. Out of societal pressure, she married him in May 2022, only to later discover he had a previous wife and child.

Claims of Assault and Forced Marriage

The victim reported that she met Bhagwan Singh at a wedding, and their relationship soon turned serious. She alleges that in February 2022, Singh visited her home while she was alone, where he drugged and assaulted her. "I didn’t know he was married. When I found out I was pregnant, he promised to marry me," she told police. Trusting his assurance, they married in a temple with their families’ approval.

Dowry Demands After Marriage

Following the wedding, Singh’s family allegedly began demanding a dowry, including items like a gold chain and a motorcycle. Her in-laws, including Singh’s mother, father, and siblings, purportedly harassed her over dowry, claiming they accepted her only for the money. In October 2022, she gave birth to a daughter, but this reportedly only escalated the harassment.

Discovery of Husband's First Wife

Recently, a woman named Priya arrived at the victim's home, introducing herself as Singh’s first wife and revealing that she and Singh share a 5-year-old son. According to Priya, she had been staying with her parents due to marital issues but returned upon learning of her husband’s second marriage. The victim confronted Singh, leading to her being allegedly beaten and expelled from the home in July 2024. The victim, now seeking justice, has filed a complaint at the Camp police station in Panipat, accusing Singh and his family of deceit, assault, and dowry harassment. Police have launched an investigation to verify the victim's claims.
