Man misinterpretes woman's affection, sets mother of three on fire after proposal rejection

Crime News: In a shocking turn of events, a 40-year-old mother of three became the victim of a horrific attack after she refused a marriage proposal. The incident unfolded at Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, when a man, overwhelmed by rejection, committed a grievous crime. The attacker, who had been frequently visiting the woman’s flower and garland shop, poured petrol on her and set her on fire. 

He then turned the flames on himself. Both individuals suffered severe burns and were rushed to Ranjhi Hospital by nearby residents who bravely intervened to extinguish the fire. Police have launched an investigation into this distressing case.

How did it happen?

The woman, now 40, was married 15 years ago in Ghamapur. She is the mother of three children, including a 12-year-old daughter who lives with her estranged husband. Her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son reside with her. For the past four years, she has been living separately from her husband and staying with her parents. Despite her personal challenges, she has managed to run a small business, operating a flower and garland shop in the local area.

Accused misinterpreted affection

On Tuesday, Narendra made a dramatic and inappropriate proposal. When the woman declined his offer, his frustration turned into rage. In a premeditated move, he arrived at the shop carrying a bottle of petrol. Narendra first doused himself in petrol before attacking the woman. After setting her on fire, he turned the flames on himself. 

Locals quickly put out the fire and provided first aid. Both the woman and Narendra were taken to Ranjhi Hospital, where they are receiving treatment for their severe burns.
