With the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha less than a week away, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (YMC) chief Mamata Banerjee said that she is all set to hold a ‘Sarba Dharma' (interfaith) rally on January 22, the day when the temple will be inaugurated in Ayodhya,

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the chief minister said that she will offer puja at the Kalighat temple and will take out the rally. She also urged people from all religions to participate in the event.

"On January 22, I am going to do a rally from Kalighat Hazra to Park Circus with people of all religions. I will ask every district head of the party to prepare for this rally. I will offer puja in Kalighat temple and then we will take out the rally," Banerjee said.

What will Sarba Dharma rally cover?

Briefing about the rally, she said, “The rally, which will be called 'Sarba Dharma' rally, will cover various religious places like temples, churches, gurdwaras, and mosques.”

After reaching Prak Circus Maidan on January 22, she then will hold a meeting. On that day, a block-wise rally will take place across West Bengal with the theme – 'All religions are equal' and people from all religions and communities will be present in the rally.

Is Sarba Dharma rally counter to Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha?

Asked whether the rally was a counter to the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony, Mamata Banerjee replied, "No! I am doing a counter-event. I am not giving any reply. I will say religion is different, but festivals are for everyone. I will not say much."

Is the consecration of Ram Mandir an election gimmick?

On January 9, the chief minister accused the BJP of using the consecration of Ram Mandir as an “election gimmick” ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Will Mamata Banerjee attend Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha?

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee decided not to attend the consecration ceremony, according to sources.

Her party is also unlikely to send any representative to the event, sources said.

Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha overview

Notably, the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha on January 22 will see more than 7,000 guests, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and several prominent personalities.

The temple will be open to the public from January 23.
