Make technology creative, not...: PM Modi urges to end monopoly at G7 Outreach session

New Delhi: At the G7 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for global efforts to ensure that everyone benefits from technological advancements. He emphasized that technology should not be controlled by a few but should be accessible to all, helping to eliminate social inequalities. "This should not just be our desire, but our responsibility," he stated.

India’s AI mission: AI for all

Referring to India’s AI Mission, which is based on the principle of 'AI for All,' Modi emphasized that technology should promote the well-being of everyone. He noted that India is fostering international collaboration as a founding member of the Global Partnership on AI. This initiative aims to ensure that AI development benefits humanity as a whole.

Historic re-election

PM Modi expressed his satisfaction at attending the summit following his re-election, describing it as the largest democratic exercise in history. He mentioned how technology made the election process fair and transparent, highlighting his government’s return to power as a victory for democracy. He stated that it is my good fortune that the people of India have given me the opportunity to serve them for the third consecutive time, calling this historic victory a triumph for democracy worldwide.

Focus on global south

Modi also urged the G7 to prioritize the concerns of the Global South, especially Africa. He proudly mentioned that under India's presidency, the African Union was admitted as a permanent member of the G20.

Principles of energy transition

Discussing India's approach to energy, Modi outlined four key principles: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. He noted that India is the first country to meet all its commitments under the Paris Agreement ahead of schedule. 

PM Modi launches Plant4Mother campaign

Modi elaborated on India's ambitious energy transition plans, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2070. He introduced India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), urging the global community to join the 'Plant4Mother' tree-planting campaign, launched on World Environment Day. This initiative encourages people worldwide to participate in environmental conservation.

PM Modi returns home

On Friday, June 14, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his brief visit to Italy, during which he participated in the G7 summit. During his stay, he also had bilateral meetings with several global leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Pope Francis, before departing for home.
