New Delhi: In a recent incident, a significant fire broke out near the Modi Mill Flyover in Okhla, southeast Delhi, leading to a four-hour firefighting operation. While the fire was successfully contained, it resulted in traffic disruptions along Mathura Road, affecting areas around Nehru Place and Kalkaji.

Swift response with 7 fire tenders

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received an alert at 4:52 pm about the blaze near the forested area close to the Modi Mill Flyover. In a prompt response, seven fire tenders were dispatched to the location. The local police were also notified and quickly arrived at the scene. Collaborative efforts between the fire and police departments proved instrumental in bringing the fire under control.

Traffic jams, advisory issued

The fire's proximity to the roadside led to traffic snarls on Mathura Road, impacting the flow around Nehru Place and Kalkaji. To manage the situation, additional traffic police personnel were deployed, and an advisory was issued urging commuters to avoid the Modi Mill Flyover temporarily.

The advisory stated, "Traffic is affected on Mathura road in the carriageway from Ashram Chowk towards Apollo Hospital as a major fire has broken out under Modi Mill Flyover alongside Mathura road. Kindly avoid the stretch." Despite the disruptions, no casualties or injuries were reported, ensuring public safety during the incident.

Ongoing assessment of damage

Following the successful containment of the fire, efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage caused. As debris is cleared with the assistance of a JCB machine, officials from the fire department continue their investigation into the incident. As of now, the cause of the fire remains undisclosed, with authorities yet to provide details on the origin of the blaze.
