New Delhi: In a significant development following the tragic stampede at a satsang in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, the police have apprehended Dev Prakash Madhukar, identified as the main accused in the incident which claimed the lives of 121 people, predominantly women. Just a day prior to Madhukar's arrest, Uttar Pradesh police detained six individuals connected to the organising committee of the satsang. These arrests shed light on the negligence and lapses that contributed to the disaster.

The Scene at the Satsang

The satsang, conducted by preacher Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as 'Bhole Baba', drew over 2.50 lakh attendees, far exceeding the permitted limit of 80,000 set by the administration.

Details from the FIR

According to the First Information Report (FIR), organisers attempted to conceal the actual number of attendees by disposing of evidence such as slippers and belongings in nearby fields, exacerbating the chaos that led to the stampede.

Eyewitness accounts and tragic consequences

Eyewitnesses recounted a harrowing scene where devotees rushed to collect soil from the preacher's feet, believing it possessed healing powers. The resulting stampede claimed numerous lives as people fell and were trampled in the pandemonium.

Ongoing investigation and search for accountability

As investigations continue, police are intensifying efforts to gather information about Narayan Sakaar Hari, focusing on potential criminal backgrounds in cities where he has been active. Despite his involvement, his name has not yet appeared in the FIR.

The arrest of Dev Prakash Madhukar marks a critical step in seeking justice for the victims of this heartbreaking incident, while authorities work towards unraveling the full scope of responsibility behind the Hathras stampede.
