Mahua Moitra, a vocal critic of the central government, embarked on a blocking spree on the microblogging site X, targeting numerous users, including several well-known journalists, who had challenged her to address the alarming decline in law and order within her home state of West Bengal.

Surprising apology: Moitra

Following his unexpected block by Mahua Moitra on X, @NarundarM tweeted a clarification, revealing that he had no prior interaction with Moitra, having never followed her or commented on her posts, and subsequently recommended that she upgrade her public relations team by hiring a better PR team.

@NarundarM responded with a tweet, saying: “Thank you. I never followed you or commented on your posts, so it seems like you are searching and blocking people. Hire a better PR team, Mahua, because you will surely need it.”

Mahua Moitra responded to @NarundarM's tweet with an apology, stating that she had notified her PR team about the issue, and surprisingly revealed that she is actually a fan of his, enjoying his posts and comments, indicating a change in tone from block to admiration.

Anjum calls out hypocrisy

On Wednesday, Ajit Anjum exposed being blocked by Mahua Moitra on X, sharing a screenshot as evidence, after he dared to question her about the heinous assault on a female doctor from Bengal. In a scathing post, Anjum conveyed his astonishment and disapproval, wrote in Hindi:

"I was blocked by Mahua Moitra as soon as I asked her about the brutal attack on a female doctor from Bengal. It's astonishing that she constantly grills the Modi government with tough questions, yet when we asked her government a single question, she swiftly blocked us. Can't she handle being questioned? Doesn't she know that freedom of expression means listening to others, not just lecturing? A young woman was brutally assaulted during her tenure, and yet she avoids accountability. No wonder people say that even hypocrisy has its limits."

Moitra breaks silence

Later in the day, Mahua Moitra took to X to explain her actions, revealing that she had been blocking users due to the high volume of online abuse she was receiving. She invited those who believed they were blocked unjustly to reach out to @NilanjanDasAITC, saying:

“For those who ask ‘Why block?’. Below are some mild ones. In case anyone feels they have been blocked unfairly - sorry - please drop a tweet to @NilanjanDasAITC & will forward to team to fix.”
