Maharashtra News: Violence erupted in Parbhani, Maharashtra, following a protest over the vandalism of a replica of the Indian Constitution. The unrest began after an individual allegedly damaged the glass-encased replica situated near a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar outside the Parbhani railway station. This incident sparked outrage among local activists and residents, leading to widespread protests.
As anger mounted, protesters gathered in large numbers, demanding justice for the desecration of the Constitution replica. What started as a peaceful demonstration quickly escalated into chaos around 1 PM when a mob began pelting stones at shops and setting vehicles ablaze. Reports indicate that over 15 vehicles, including trucks and two-wheelers, were damaged during the violence. Authorities responded by deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd and imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prevent further gatherings.

District Magistrate Raghunath Gawade confirmed that additional police forces were called in to maintain order after the situation spiraled out of control. "We have issued prohibitory orders and held meetings with various organizations to restore peace," he stated.
The turmoil was triggered by an incident on Tuesday evening when Sopan Pawar, a local resident, was accused of vandalizing the Constitution replica. Local activists apprehended Pawar and handed him over to the police. However, the delay in taking action against him led to heightened tensions and ultimately resulted in the violent protests that followed.
Protesters blocked railway tracks and attempted to disrupt train services, reflecting their frustration with what they perceived as inadequate government response. "The initial lax approach by authorities contributed to this violence," said Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, emphasizing the need for prompt action in such sensitive matters.
In light of the chaos, political leaders across party lines condemned the violence and urged citizens to maintain peace. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray described the desecration as "condemnable" and called for strict action against those responsible. Meanwhile, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chief Prakash Ambedkar warned of severe consequences if those behind the vandalism were not apprehended swiftly.
As tensions remain high in Parbhani, authorities are working diligently to restore order while ensuring that justice is served for the vandalism incident. The situation serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between public sentiment and law enforcement in times of crisis.
